Therapy for Survivors of Sexual Assault and Abuse
MY APPROACH
I specialize in providing trauma-informed therapy for survivors of sexual assault and abuse. This journey looks different for each person and so I take an eclectic approach, incorporating elements attachment theory and Internal Family Systems (IFS) into my work.
In our work together, I will provide a safe, nonjudgmental, and empowering therapeutic space where your story is respected and believed. I will guide in you through experiences of emotional and somatic healing which will deepen your connection to your body. This will allow you to feel
safe in your body
trusting of all that your body can do for you
a greater sense of confidence and presence
I will also support you in building romantic and sexual relationships that feel healthy and affirming to you. We may explore confusing or challenging feelings that can arise during intimacy with a partner or on your own, and together we can integrate and process what is coming to the surface.
Feelings of violation and being trapped in your body can arise from a wide range of experiences -from medical interventions in infancy that were intended to help but were guided by misinformed practices, to rape and abuse. Sexual trauma can be a life-rupturing experience, often shattering trust in oneself and others, and creating deep challenges in intimacy and connection. Because sexual violence is still widely stigmatized and underreported, many survivors carry their experiences in silence for a long time.
Reaching out for therapy is a courageous step, and I honor the strength it takes to share something so painful and personal. Please do not hesitate to reach out!
